wrong...

There's a new site out there. A type of social networking site slash matchmaker pick-up place. But not really. It's called Cloud Girlfriend. It's a site where single guys can create an online girlfriend that will leave love notes for you on your Facebook wall so your friends will see. They will create pictures of you two snuggling, kissing and hanging out. The site basically sums up what is wrong with this world. It's just wrong. I understand who they're going after. The ego. Guys are all about The Ego and making up a site to save face in front of his friends is utterly disgraceful. I'm in no way promoting this site (even though giving them a negative write-up is kinda giving them a voice) but just saying how I feel about it. For some reason, I was kinda troubled by it when I first heard about it the other day on the radio. Just wrong.

the disturbing dream..

I really don't know where I was. I'll explain. It's a dream from moments ago. Reason why I'm up now at almost 3am and not able to go back to sleep. I'm at some type of music festival. Just got there. I'm in the press area. Walking around but seem to only be bumping into strangers and other people I don't know. Going in circles. I then hump into this one guy who is talking to a girl. He is excited to see me. He told me he went to school with me and saw our old teacher a while back. We talk. I then leave and walk backstage to see if I can get to the bar. I suddenly am transformed and am in a hospital. Walking briskly down a hallway. I'm there to see my friend who passed away in 2004. I go see him. He's in a large white room. We're talking when he pulls out a blue binder. It's his writings. He gives me the book to look through. It's a mix of a diary and a sketching board. He won't tell me the meanings behind some of his entries and sketches. As he tells me that he converts into an old lady. In a wheelchair. She now tells me that I should take the book and to write some stuff in it. She asks me if I have any good ideas. I say no. I try to walk away but she forces the book on me. I finally take it and leave the room. I put the book down outside the room thinking someone will give it back to her. Or him. As I'm leaving, a girl I know walks in. She asks me where I'm going. I say home.

I wake up.

theater of the mind.

One of the main reasons why I feel in love with radio is the whole theater of the mind mystique behind it. Sound effects, words making up a play in the listeners mind. Much like why I fell in love with writing. Here's a cool documentary about how they made sound effects in the good ol' days of radio. Before I was even an idea..

alyssa milano and shane sitting in the tree..

I'm not a fan of Pierce Brosnan. I'm not a huge fan of CNN, either. However, I tuned in tonight because I heard that he'll be talking about Twitter. And Alyssa Milano will be on it.

Milano and I go way back. Way back to her Who's the Boss days. I would run to the corner store after school with my friends and grab the latest Big Bop and Tiger Beat magazines to get the latest pullout of our super starlet. I would sit by the television every Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock to watch the groundbreaking comedy just to get a glimpse of the teenage beauty. I remember I boycotted the show when she got a boyfriend. I would later watch the show again when I heard that they broke up. I couldn't stay mad at her. Fast forward 20 years and she still gives me those blushing spells when I see her. Like tonight. But unlike before, I'm in awe with her intelligence. How she spends so much of her time helping charities. It's like my first girlfriend in the sandbox is now a world leader and me, at the back of the stadium looking at her on stage, just gushing with joy and amazement that the little innocent girl I once had a crush on in the schoolyard is now a leader of a whole generation and has an amazing mind to back it up.

In the mid 80s, Alyssa was conscienceless in shaping what I would look for in girls in my formative years of being a young, good looking bachelor. Through her, I found out that I liked humor, and innocence and a sweet smile, deep eyes, puffy lips and a nice neck. But I fell for a character without knowing her. And now. so many years later, she is again shaping what I dig in girls. Intelligent. Independent. Determined. Caring. And of course, that sense of humor is still important. She's radiant. Still. And I'm sure I was trying to say that when I was 9 years old with my school buddies but we just thought of her as a girl with a nice smile.

almost ready..

Decided to pack early this time. I've been burned too many times where I pack in a rush and then I get to my destination when I realize I forgot something. This time at least I have four days to remember if I forgot something. All done. Gotta do some errands today and finish up my schedule for when I'm in Miami and I'll be all set. Traveling stress free is key.

dream pain...

Neck pain really gets on my nerves. It's so close to the head, at times it feels like a headache. Other times, it creeps down to my back. It always effects my shoulders. Rest is key, I find. And that is what I'm doing today. A good message could help, too. Either way, I'm nursing a sore neck and shoulder pain.

Sometimes, I feel like I should get into urban planning. The way I dream about the city and how the layouts for little towns I travel to in dreamland have a cool look to them. I should make these dreams real and draw them up and hand them in to the planning guys. I have a cool idea on what to do you with some parts of downtown and around my hood. Most of them are based on European architecture, actually. Last night I had a dream where I was walking around Cumberland Street in Toronto. I felt like I was in Paris. Maybe I was. Don't know but as far as my dream was trying to tell me, I was in Toronto. Searching for someone who lived in the area. It was an odd dream, but cool in the sense that it inspired me to create more. I wish I knew how to draw well. Gave up on that one a long time ago. Thank God for Photoshop.

Getting late. Getting hungry. Gong to take an Advil, chow down on some dinner, lay back and get inspired some more.

why don't you call me...

So I had this idea in my head for a few days and needed to get it out. It was one of those ideas that continued to get better and better every time I thought about it. It was cool since I kept on adding on to it. Without diluting it. Anyway. I ended up making the thought into something today. The following is the end result. Hopefully, we'll have more of these in the very near future. Let me know what you think...

i need drugs. help!

lazy sundays

One constant quote I've heard this weekend is that it has passed so fast. I thought so, too. Woke up this morning wondering how it could already be Sunday. Got up early and tried to start my day. Get things done before Noon. Fail. I had to go back to sleep. Not like I had a big night on Saturday. Went to bed before midnight. It was just that Sunday morning drowsiness that seems to kick in every week. No matter how refreshed you feel. I did, however end up download some albums I've wanted for a while which was really cool. Listened to old Prince while making banana pancakes. Then crashed. Woke up and still kinda tired. It was a lazy Sunday indeed. Less than a week I will be in Miami. Looking at the weather I'm happy I'm leaving for a bit. Doesn't look like this winter from hell will be leaving us anytime soon. It'll be an average of 30 degrees over in Florida for the first few days I'm there. Finally, t-shirt. Beach. Some type of exotic mixed drink and sunshine. It's about time. These are the lazy days I look forward to.

friday night adventure

It's always nice to be able to get away from the regular and flip the script, sometimes. Even if that means chilling with family and not doing the usual party schedule with your friends. I've been trying to do this at least twice a month with my Mom. Dinner and movie. Keeping it inexpensive and local. The nights always turn out great. Last night was no exception. We decided to go out the local Thai hotspot by our place, called Golden Bell where I had the sweet and sour shrimp and my Mom had the Spicy Curry Chicken. Speaking of inexpensive, Mom’s plate stood at $8.50 and mine was a dollar more. Good price considering, we had leftovers for the rest of the week. Both meals came with a generous helping of white rice while I sipped on a nice glass of Sprite. The bill rang up just over $30.00 along with a twenty percent tip. The two waitress working did a quick job serving everyone who came in and they also had a nice amount of pick-up orders where they knew each other by name and order. I was impressed. For a tiny Asian kitchen in a quiet plaza in Newmarket, it’s obvious Golden Bell is a local favorite. It was my first time there and defiantly not my last.

Enjoying my Sweet and Sour Shrimp at Golden Bell Restaurant (16925 Yonge Street Newmarket, ON L3Y 5Y1) on March 25th, 2011

After the meal, we went to the Silver City up the street and watched Limitless. The new movie with legend Robert De Niro and booming star Bradly Cooper. It was well acted throughout while the storyline went a bit too far to make it believable. I’m sure they will be a time when a pill that allows us to use that much of brain power will be on the legal or black market, but the way the story unfolded it made it very Hollywood-esque melodrama which kind of disappointed me. If you were to watch it with that in mind, I’m sure you would enjoy it. Don’t go into it thinking you will witness a realistic portrayal of the inevitable.
Overall. It was a great night out of entertainment and good eats. I can’t wait till the next time we keep it local and stay by home. In Newmarket.

This is the first of many (I hope) of continuous vlogs that will be appearing on my site. Hopefully, it'll be a bi-weekly thing where I do a video to let my readers know what's going on and maybe also give me the opportunity to blow off some steam with a commentary or two. Here's the first vlog. and don't forget to check out my Youtube page for more creative video's from yours truly.

greatest generation

Something I hate what the current generation or even my generation do is not to dig into the crates and find out the history about our city. Toronto is a gold mind for all types of awesome stories and wonderful culture. Especially when you're a music fan. I missed the first part of this documentary called Yonge Street: Toronto Rock'n'Roll Stories but caught the second part last night. Had fun watching it and made me wish I was alive during the greatest generation. Here's a teaser for tonight's episode that airs on Bravo at 10pm.

seeing three

photography and cookin'

As the winter came rolling back, and I was having my lunch looking out the window, I had to take a few minutes to go outside and take a few last flicks of the moment. Took a quick shots. I then decided to cook some dinner. Still in that photography mood, I continued to be clicker happy and take a few shots of the dinner-making process. This is what came out. And what did I have, you ask? Tuna and veggies with Kamut Rotini. Along for the ride were some basil and greek feta.

the evil smirk

Looking out his backyard window, waiting for his morning coffee to brew and his blueberry bagel to warm up, the snow falling lightly on the March ground reminded him of four words. Miami In Ten Days. He smiled while giving the early spring surprise the middle finger and an evil smirk on his morning mug.

mark dailey gets lifetime achievement award..

As the entertainment world is mourning the loss of a movie diva, I was happy to learn today that our pal Mark Dailey will be given the 2011 RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday May 7th. Dailey was a huge fan of my page and always there to share encouraging words when things weren't going so well. He was a friend and a mentor and am proud others thought so too. It's a well fitting nod to one of Toronto's legends. Here's the official release.

RTNDA Canada – The Association of Electronic Journalists is pleased to announce that Mark Dailey and Ross Kentner will be honoured with 2011 RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Awards in the Central Region. The awards will be presented at the RTNDA Central Regional Awards Banquet in Waterloo, ON Saturday, May 7, 2011.

Mark Dailey was more than "The Voice" of Toronto's Citytv. He was the voice of the city itself. After more than 30 years at Citytv, the beloved anchor, reporter and booth announcer lost his battle with recurring cancer last December at the age of 57. Mark was born in Youngstown, Ohio where he studied law enforcement at university and briefly served as a state trooper. But radio was his calling and he was soon working in the 20-20 newsroom at the legendary "Big 8", CKLW Windsor-Detroit in the early 70s. In 1974 he travelled up the 401 to CHUM Radio and five years later joined the fledgling CityPulse news team. There, Mark rose to prominence as a colourful police reporter. Over the years he became a local icon delivering the news with dry, witty and offbeat humour. His public battle with prostate cancer in 2004 turned Mark into an advocate for men's health. Sadly, the cancer returned last fall in his kidney and ultimately to his lungs. Mark received many well-deserved honours and accolades over the years for his community involvement and journalistic prowess.

sneezy fame

Allergies suck. I knew they'll hit me sometime soon. I never knew it would be the day that we're expecting snow, however. The headache has returned - remember the one I was talking about yesterday? But I also have a huge sinus infection to go along with it and it seems every time I try to concentrate, my head hurts even more and I just want to finish whatever I'm doing (like this entry) and go back to bed. Just made some tea. Tea and rest. That'll be all.

letting my ideas come out to play...

For most of the day, I was having a huge thing of writers block. As per usual, the writers block became a headache. The headache became aggravation. Aggravation became moodiness. Moodiness became me walking around not knowing what to do. I finally decided to cook up some fried cod with onions and lemon juice and watch a movie. I went to my favorite streaming site and decided upon Limitless. This is not a review for the flick, but I will say that it was overall pretty good. The soundtrack was top drawer. The movie had its ups and downs. It lost my concentration in the middle and was kinda predictable. I'm sure if I were in a movie theater environment and not in front of my computer with so many distractions, I would think differently about it. By the last part of the movie, I was inspired to write. Movies do that. Give me ideas. Unlock that locked door inside my brain to let out all these fun creative ideas that were trapped up for so long. My house smells like burning. I made some popcorn. Most of them turned out black. I never really trusted popcorn bags that were ready under 2 minutes, anyway. The cod was good. Reminded me of my mom's saltfish. Just missing the potatoes.

The Lesson of the day: Inspiration is there for you to grow from. You just have to look deep enough to see it and understand it and grow from it. Then use it to your advantage. Learn what these things are and stick with them if they help you positively. It could be music, movies, TV, books, talking to a special someone, nature. Like that true love, never let it go when you find it. It'll be there for when you are at the lowest and then something will click, and those creative creatures will be unlocked from that stuffed up room. So they can come out and play.

just a thought..

Sometimes you have to fall down to get on back up and give it another try. Sometimes, it's all about learning from doing it over and over and over again so you can appreciate it more when it's done and finished. Don't know if this makes much sense, but it sure did just now in my head. Whatever it is.

to motown for the harvest moon..

Everyone has a list of the artists they want to see before they die. Or retire. Or retire and then come back. I'm lucky enough to have seen most of them in the Hip Hop sphere. Today, I crossed yet another one off the list. This time it's from the Rock circle. Neil Young. He'll be at the Fox Theater in May. Can't wait to burst out the lyrics of Harvest Moon over a few gin and tons. We'll see each other soon, Mr. Young.

vivid dreams in my head

Vivid dreams are always the best. When you are in that state of being awake and sleep, you are wondering if this is real or not. If you're actually flying around with a red elephant and a huge spliff. That dream didn't go down, but I'm sure everyone have had similar ones. Here are a couple that happened this week.

I am in a huge theater by myself. Eating popcorn and drinking a huge Coke. The movie starts to play. The movie ends up being my dreams. All of them. In order. My dream history literally flashing before my eyes. The movie ends. I walk out of the theater and see some friends. I tell them what happened. They tell me that everyone is able to do that. Record dreams and watch them later while in a conscienceless state. Awesome, I think.

This last one I had last night. I'm in my room running around looking for my camera. I see a bunch of different ones. Different sizes, shapes, types, makes, but none of them are mine. I hear some talking downstairs. I'm dressed up in a nice suit and I'm bugging out about how my hair looks. Constantly looking in the mirror. I find my camera. I head downstairs. As I'm rushing down, I'm making sure my camera is working. I then see him. Russell Simmons. He's in my house doing some PR stuff for his clothing line. I walk up to him and talk business with him. He tells me he likes how I look and wants to use me in one of his ads. We pose of a picture.

I wake up.

spring cleaning while it rains..

Smells like rain. At least it ain't snow. A tight breeze outside and it's going to be a cool weekend to bring in Spring. My favorite season. Represents new beginnings. Nicer weather. Summer just around the corner. Going to keep it quiet this weekend, spring cleaning and bumping out to some REM and playing it loud while dusting, packing, rearranging, lifting, moving and maybe some singing, too.

missing st. patty's..

I decided not to drink this week. Going to keep it sober. Yes. I knew this week was the week that all beer drinkers look forward to all year long to wear green, drink for more than usual and have a huge hangover the following day when trying to survive a long day of work with a huge hangover, but a promise is a promise. Especially when said promise is made to oneself. I will miss the friends, the goodtimes, the stories told the next day. The embarrassing pictures taken and the huge bar bill. I'm on a creative roll right now and I can't afford missing out on some good energy just because of a drinkers holiday and wanting to sleep in due to a dumb headache and chest pains. But I will wish everyone else goodtimes all around and may you raise a glass and have a pint or two on me. Till next year, mate. Cheers.

doom and thom

When I was getting into Hip Hop one of the groups I was introduced to was KMD. A three guy group mainly known for their association with 3rd Bass. The main dude from KMD was a rapper named Zev Love X. The group didn't do too much except for a few classic tunes in the underground community. When Zev's brother, Subroc, passed away, who was also in the group, Zev took some time off from the culture only to resurface years later as the matured, skilled emcee MF Doom. If you are fan of this page, you know MF Doom has always been a favorite of mine. Meanwhile, Around that same time when KMD was getting my attention, I was also noticing another group. An alternative group. Radiohead. I always thought their leader, Thom Yorke was a genius. I later was proven right with Radiohead's later releases such as OK Computer. Both Yorke and Doom, I believe are two of the most gifted artists in music history. This is why I was happy to read today that they might be working together. Two legends. Two masterminds from the separate ends of the music sphere united. Now that is what art is made of.

family band - 5 minute tragically hip documentary

When I was looking for new sounds to dig rather than the regular stuff I grew up with and the Hip Hop that was always on my walkman, I started to really look at rock music. Mainly because of my environment, I guess. As a kid growing up in the 90s in Canada, it was hard not to like these guys. This is a cool documentary about The Hip.

nate dog makes me smile....

It was a depressing morning as I turned on my computer and found out that we lost another Hip Hop solder last night. As the morning slowly moved on, more and more tributes were coming in for Nate Dogg on both Twitter and Facebook. I listened to his tunes and bumped my head. I thought how this wasn't the way I wanted to start my morning. It'll be too tough to carry on today and get what I need to be done today, done. But then I remembered. My nephew had dropped off some cupcakes last night and there was a whole package of them left for me in the kitchen. 12 tiny chocolate cakes that felt like clouds softly dissolving in my mouth. Got some hot chocolate ready and delve into the chocolate goodness. Slowly but surely, I started to feel better. Most likely it was the sugar energy that was intoxicating me, but I also felt better. Emotionally. I remember when my Dad would tell me any gift from his three children will cheer up his day. I know now what he meant.

My nephew is my own little Nate Dog. Thank you Nathanial for giving your uncle a smile this morning.

jason ward gone from the mighty q

Noticed the following tweet on long time Q guy Jason Ward this morning vis his twitter. Guess he's been let go from the mighty rocker.
To my friends, fans and now former co-workers, thank you for seven great years at Q107.

1 minute blog piece..

Trying to get my head into gear this morning. Still yawning and stretching and the coffee isn't working. I'm currently finishing up my second dose of caffeine. I just finished writing a script for my next promo video for the page. It should be funny. If you have been watching TV for the past few months, I'm sure you will recognize the it. It's a hit off a popular shampoo spot. I can already tell it's going to be one of those days. Here's something to get you going this morning and to inspire you..It's truly an amazing work of art.

the sun can be deceiving...

Sometimes the sun can be deceiving. Brightly shinning and piercing through the window, you think that it's a hot day. You open up the window to find out that it's just a facade and that it's really cold out. The sun just happens to be out. Today was different. I looked outside and noticed that more snow vanished from my front yard. I can see almost a whole yard of green. I went out for my weekly jog around the corner (which will graduate into my daily jog once the nicer weather comes) and I smelled something. Spring. I can smell it. Almost feel it. I got home and was so satisfied with today's cool breeze and the the slight hit from the sun, I decided to open my bedroom window. It's been open since. And it didn't even get cold. Soon, spring will be here where I can walk on concrete and put my hands through green grass. The warmth and the smell of new beginnings. Almost here.

beautiful city..

Before I went to a lecture on Saturday at UofT, I decided to take out the old camera and take some snaps. Here's a few that came out that just reminded me what a beautiful city we live in.

strength

tragedy and staying strong for the team..

Left you off last night when I just learned about the devastation that's known as the Earthquake in Japan and the Tsunami that shortly came after and rocked what seems like the rest of the world. As I turned off my computer, I grabbed my hot herbal tea and went upstairs. Straight to bed and turned on the news channel to learn more. I fell asleep with breaking news reports sneaking into my sleeping thought process and woke up knowing it'll be worse. As I got up, I ventured downstairs just waiting to find out the death toll and what else has happened to our world. It's times like these when we start to consider the world Ours. Not just yours. You open it up and realize that there's more people living here than you and your insignificant problems and your crew of 10 people. We start to care for the others out there. People who we have never met. People who we have met a few times and have traveled abroad to start a new life. We start to take in. We start to love and be less selfish. Sad that only when this type of devastation occurs that we feel like this. We open up our hearts to the rest of the world. Or realize that there's others out there.

While you state that you're praying for everyone that has been effected by the tragedy, you start to get depressed and look at life on that grander scale. That scale that you can't really control unless your name is Mother Nature. You sit at home and feel sorry for what happens to others who are just doing what you're doing but on the other side of the world while you are happy, free, healthy and safe just around the corner. And by corner, I mean a millions miles away in another continent. You can't get depressed. You can't get down.. You have to remain strong. It's like that classic scene in a war movie. While your buddies are dying and bleeding beside you, you have to start to think about yourself so you can be strong for them. So you can take care of them.

So the lesson of the day is this. Get out of that rut. Turn on the television. Put on some music. Find a laughing baby. Uplift yourself and make yourself feel better. Laughter, smiling, is that medication that makes you stronger and makes you realize that life does have some good stuff going for it. This is your intense workout before the big fight. The fight against that unknown power that seems to cause sadness and death around the world every year. Never forget, before you can give love you have to love yourself and with that, you have to be in tip top shape. Turn off the news this weekend and put on a smile. It'll do your body good.

natural thoughts through nightmares..

Waiting for water to boil and listening to raindrops hitting the swings in the backyard quietly as everyone sleeps around me. Woke up because I had to remember something. I picked up my phone and left myself a memo. Done. Now, I can't seem to go back to sleep. Always happens. I vaguely remember why I had to remember it or what the dream was about, but I do remember being in a room and looking down and I saw shapes joined together. Turned out to be words. The words said Natural Thoughts Through Nightmares. Huh. Again, No idea what this means. Be it as it may. This is not the most important thing right now. Just heard about Japan. My thought process is turning towards them, now as I get up to get my tea.

crunchy free stuff

Remember when I won a bunch of stuff from Casie Stewart and Doritos? I posted the winning entry last week on here. Anyway, the package came today. Full of fun stuff. Here's a video of me showing everything off along with me trying out the new chips.

Just to let you know, if anyone has some products you would like me to try out and post up on here, just shoot me an e-mail. I'll give you the shipping address. I dress in small shirts, pants size is 29 or 30 and I dig vintage stuff, too. Just putting it out there.

the heart breaks

It's gotten to that point of the night where my neck is hurting. Back is sore. My body is feeling another full day of duties, thinking, working, thought processing, eating and contemplating. To mark Biggies 14th Anniversary today, I listened to a lot of old school Hip Hop which is always good for the soul. I haven't listened to older Hip Hop in a while. It's like visiting a relative every few years. Once you grow older you're able to take them all the time, but when your paths cross it warms your heart with the unconditional love they have for you and you have for them. That feeling that resides in your soul that will never leave and grow old. It grows older with you as your heart makes room for other people, things, types of music, food. Life stuff. The relatives still get their own private room but it's just a bit cozier than before. No more room for an ensuite but able to fit in a TV that only the VIP members get.

Lesson of the day: Make time for those special VIPers in your life. Spend some extra time with them and tell them how much you care and look forward to the moments you spend with them before you get up again and deal with life battles. The great thing about these special people or things is that from that point you leave them to the time you see them again, you know that no matter what, in that time in between, they will always be there for you to help you get through.

young blood - the naked and famous

we remember

hello

If you grew up in the 80's Lionel Richie taught you a lot of those cheesy love lines that you would use in the playground and not know till later in life what they really meant. Anyway, when I saw this picture yesterday it made my morning. Check out the full story here about how this missing person's campaign started in New York.

another night at the old movie house

I mourn for the days when Hollywood made movies that were classics. The days when you leave the cinema and you know that the movie you just watched will be a classic and generations after you will be still talking about it. Kids looking up to you asking you if you watched it at the old cinema when you were a child. With some movies, I still remember the day I watched it and with whom and what I thought about it after. These days, I look at Hollywood productions and just smirk, say it was a pretty good attempt and thankful I went to watch it on a Tuesday rather than paying full price for it. I follow in line down the stairs wondering what's the next type of trash Hollywood is going to throw at us. Don't get me wrong. They have delivered some really good movies in the past decade or so. Movies that will live on for years. But not like movies of when I was a child. Movies that are re-mastered and are the main subjects of weekend tributes at those art cinema houses downtown.

My advice for the studios? K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Don't forget. Ferris didn't have to step in layers of dreams or turn blue to make his day off the most talked about teen flick of all time,

Think about it next time you go to the old movie house.

happy international women's day

roads

The humming from my new laptop is gentle and quiet. And comforting. Like a cat purring while resting on your leg after a long day running around and chasing the cotton ball. Another week has started. Looking ahead. Looking forward. Another weekend past. No looking back. No regrets. What is done is done. Learn and live and grow.
