Confirmed reports are muttering around the radiosphere this afternoon that one half of Virgin Radio's breakfast show has been let go. Amanda "Billie Holiday" Dunn was fired. This news comes right after Dunn's divorce from Peter Luciano - lawyer and former member of Canadian pop band VIP.
Jay "Mad Dog" Doudelet and Dunn have worked together for more than a decade at various Toronto stations including CHFI, and during the original run of KISS 92.
In May, Virgin's sister station, Boom 97.3 let go of morning hosts, Humble Howard and Colleen Rusholme. In a weird coincidence, just today Howard wrote about being fired here.
As of this time, Billie is still on Virgin's website and it's still pumping out the Mad Dog and Billie Show. Her Twitter has not been updated since July 11th.
That really sucks. Can't believe they let her go. I really liked her. Crappy timing on the part of 99.9 given that she's going through a divorce. Jerks!

and then they 'fire' her now in the middle of a difficult personal time. What a crap industry.
I think I'll be tuning in to Kiss 92.5 for now on.

Hey. Thanks for the comment! Yeah. The industry is bad for letting people go. My old pal Tom Rivers was let go on his birthday from CHUM back in the early 80s. He would later sue and win. That's when he jumped over to CFTR. $100,000.00 happier.

ReplyDeleteJust wondered now where Billie went, thanks for your blog but I also hate what they have done. I couldn't beleive she took such a short mat leave then they do this to her. I will no longer be listening to 99.9 either.
