richardson critical after ski bump

British actress Natasha Richardson has been critically injured in a ski accident and is being treated in a Montreal hospital, several British news agencies were reporting on Monday night.

IrishCentral.com reported that Richardson, who has appeared in more than 35 films including The Parent Trap and Maid in Manhattan, suffered a traumatic brain injury while skiing at a resort.

A staff member at Sacre Coeur hospital, who didn’t give her name, confirmed that Richardson had been in the hospital’s intensive care unit Monday night. However, by 11 p.m., she was no longer in the hospital, the staff member said.

People Magazine has reported Richardson, who won a Tony award in 1998 for her role in the musical Cabaret, was skiing at Mont Tremblant, about 140 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Richardson, 45, is the wife of Liam Neeson, known for his roles in Schindler’s List and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and is the daughter of legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave.

The couple has been married since 1994 and has two children, according to People magazine.

Neeson has been recently filming the movie Chloe in Toronto with Julianne Moore.

Richardson was set to co-star alongside her mother in a Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night of Music. The pair most recently appeared onscreen together in the 2007 film Evening, which also starred Meryl Streep and Claire Danes.

It is unknown whether Neeson is with Richardson at the hospital.
