kids...

Kids. You've gotta love them. Went to Oakville today to visit my sister, my brother-in-law and my nephew and also to try out their new Wii. My eleven month old nephew doesn't seem to remember me at all. Never. I guess it's because I don't see him on such a regular basis that he's able to remember my face. He's nice, though. He stares at me, shakes his hand at me and then looks away all the while, however knowing he has no idea that I'm his Uncle Shane. It's kinda weird since my niece who I never see and lives in another country knows me and doesn't need any kind of mind jogging to remember me. Be it as it may, I tried today to get on Nate's good side. While my brother-in-law was getting ready to head out to a movie and my sister was also getting ready and my Dad was playing with the Wii, My mom and I took the time to bound with the little tot. I grabbed my Dad's keys. Nate stared at them and gave the hand signal that he wanted them. I handed them to him. He smiled. He gave them back. My mom filled me in on how to play this game. I had to give it back to him when he'll give it back to me and then I'll give it back to him and we'll do this until someone gets tired. Fine. Game on. We were playing. I handed back the set of keys to my big blued eyed nephew. He then gave me a smile and passed them back to me. It was the first time he ever smiled at me. I was proud. I finally found what to do to make him smile. I think he just cared that someone was finally playing with him. The game continued until I had to leave however, I feel like I won the key brawl as I got my young opponent to give me a friendly nod of recognition.

I don't know if you know how good that feels, but it feels great when your niece or nephew smiles at you for the first time.

The next game we'll be playing is `Let's see if Nate Remembers Me'. I'm sure it'll be a good match.
