i'm addicted to this new widget. it let's you `draw' online. see, i don't have a scanner. have one, but can't hook it up because we lost the installation cd so this new little gadget has come in handy. i just draw using any tools i like - be it pencil, markers, paint, or even spray paint and ink pen, i can doodle on the screen and try to resemble something decent. it's a good backup when i don't have photoshop at my disposal. this was the first one i did looking at an old pic i had of myself when i shaved my head a couple of years ago.
speaking of which, i think my hair is long enough. it's amazing how in 9 months, my hair can go from no hair at all to it being just under my shoulders. most the time i wait 'till mid-april or early may to shave my head, but i think this year i'm going to do it early. love the cold air hitting the bald head.
i was able to check out the am740 tribute show to jim paulson who had passed away last year. known as a longtime disk jockey in toronto, but also as the voice for southern ontario car racing, paulson had the voice that anyone who wanted to be a broadcaster wanted to have. deep baritone that was friendly and warm.
i met paulson briefly in 2001 during the canadian music week conference while i was touring around rubbing elbows with industry bigwigs. i stopped by the energy108 booth to see if the boss was there. it happened that paulson was doing the same thing. i introduced myself as a fan of his and after a few minutes of talking he told me how it was remarkable on how much knowledge i had on radio and especially the local market. he then asked me what do i think about what should change on toronto radio. me? the kid that sits by the radio and just listens? why do you care? that's what i thought. i always found it an honor to be able to share my ideas with paulson who listened and it was obvious he appreciated every word. i wasn't able to get his feedback as he had to head to an industry lecture but it was great just to meet the legend for one time. he was really one of the greatest nicest guys on the radio. if you'd like to check out the tribute online over here.
wow. while i think of great radio days gone by i can't help not to think about the fact that i don't have a radio in my room anymore. the first time in almost 22 years. the days of sneaking a radio under your pillow to listen to the shows are gone. how about the death of polaroid and arcades in toronto? progression is a wonderful thing, however don't take our childhood away all at once.
